We have been here before for brunch and during holiday buffets. Today we decided to try for a tea time and end up with a big birthday lunch. The view is perfect anytime, the table settings is nice, clean and crisp. Service is always good here, very attentive and courteous. The food was good, although my steak was a bit cold, I didn't taste any seasoning on it, and kind of bland to me. Regardless, we still had a great time and enjoyed our time here.

Some restaurants serve dinner. The Beachhouse at the Moana Surfrider creates an experience you’ll remember long after the last bite. From the moment we arrived, we knew we were in for something special. General Manager Eugene personally stopped by our table to warmly welcome us and ensure we were enjoying our evening. That thoughtful gesture immediately set the tone and demonstrated the level of hospitality and attention to detail that defines the Beachhouse experience. We chose the Beachhouse for Two tasting menu, and every course showcased the kitchen’s creativity, impeccable execution, and commitment to quality. The evening began with a velvety Lobster Chowder that was rich, comforting, and generously topped with sweet lobster. The Kona Lobster Au Gratin was indulgent and beautifully balanced, while the Braised Pork Belly was one of the finest I’ve ever had - crispy on the outside, impossibly tender inside, and bursting with flavor. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the Seafood Broil, featuring whole Maine lobster, black tiger prawns, and perfectly cooked scallops. Every element was exceptionally fresh and prepared to perfection. The kaffir-lime chili butter enhanced the natural sweetness of the seafood without overpowering it, while the creamy pommes purée and crispy Brussels sprouts completed an unforgettable entrée. Dessert was equally impressive. The Mango Misu was light, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, while the Chocolate Crunch Mousse provided the perfect rich and decadent finale. The thoughtfully selected wine pairings elevated each course beautifully and made the tasting menu feel like a true culinary journey. Of course, dining on the historic veranda overlooking Waikīkī Beach during sunset is breathtaking in itself, but what truly made the evening extraordinary was the service. Our server, Alex, delivered hospitality that can only be described as world-class. He was personable, knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely passionate about ensuring every detail of our evening was perfect. His recommendations were excellent, his timing was impeccable, and he anticipated our needs before we ever had to ask. Alex’s warmth, professionalism, and sincere care transformed an outstanding dinner into an unforgettable experience. The combination of Eugene’s personal welcome and Alex’s exceptional service made us feel like honored guests rather than customers. That level of hospitality is increasingly rare and deserves to be recognized. If you’re celebrating a special occasion—or simply want to experience one of the finest restaurants in Hawaiʻi - the Beachhouse at the Moana is an absolute must. Between the spectacular oceanfront setting, outstanding cuisine, expertly curated wine pairings, and an exceptional team led by Eugene and Alex, this was one of the finest dining experiences we’ve ever had.

I’ll keep the sharp, travel-food-critic sensibility atmospheric, unsentimental, and biting without directly copying Bourdain’s exact voice. Waikiki knows how to make an entrance. And Beachhouse at the Moana might have one of the better ones. You walk through the Moana Surfrider white columns, old-Hawaii grandeur, the Pacific stretching out beyond you and everything about the setting whispers that you’re about to embark on something special. Maybe not literally Michelin-starred, but certainly a meal with ambition. The room is beautiful. The setting is almost unfair. And perhaps that’s what makes the disappointment sting so much. Because the food simply doesn’t live up to the room it’s being served in. The presentation was respectable. Plates arrived looking polished enough for photographs. But somewhere between the kitchen and the table, the most important ingredient disappeared: Soul. The flavors felt muted. Watered down. Safe. Almost as though the food had been designed less to leave an impression and more to efficiently satisfy the endless procession of visitors passing through Waikiki. And that’s a shame. Because food in Hawaii shouldn’t have to whisper. This is an island surrounded by extraordinary ingredients, cultures, traditions, and flavors. A restaurant sitting in one of Waikiki’s most iconic locations has every opportunity to tell that story. Instead, I kept waiting for something anything to jump off the plate. It never came. Then there was the service. Profoundly inattentive. Not disastrous. Not theatrical enough to become a funny story later. Somehow worse: indifferent. The kind of service where you begin wondering whether anyone remembers you’re actually sitting at the table. And when you’re dining somewhere that presents itself with this level of elegance, service isn’t a footnote. It’s part of the meal. That’s ultimately the frustrating thing about Beachhouse. It has everything required to create a memorable dining experience: the history, the ocean, the architecture, the atmosphere, the location. Everything except the thing you came for. The aesthetic promises a culinary journey. The plate delivers a layover. Beautiful room. Beautiful view. Beautiful presentation. But beauty can only carry dinner so far. Eventually, the food has to say something. Ours had very little to say.

This place was simply marvelous! We made a reservation so there wasn't a wait to be seated. The entire staff were friendly! It was a celebration so they gave us one of the best tables in the house and the view was breathtaking! The level of service provided far exceeded my expectations!

Wonderful dinner here to celebrate my mother’s birthday while visiting Honolulu. We had the 4-course set menu. All courses were delicious and beautifully plated. Service was faultless from start to finish and our waiter really made us feel at ease. Lovely atmosphere in the elegant colonnade overlooking the rear terrace. Beautiful setting. Elegant without being stuffy.
